Research Interests
Dr. Andrew Brown is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Medicine and at the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration (CCR). Dr. Brown’s broad research interests include bioengineering, medical device development, translational research and academic commercial translation.
His specific research focus areas revolve around bone regeneration, tissue engineering and metallic magnesium for biomedical applications. In addition to his research work as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Medicine, he is the senior program manager for commercial translation at sciVelo, a translational research acceleration program at the University of Pittsburgh. As a result of his projects at the CCR, Dr. Brown has become very interested in medical device development, translational research and entrepreneurship.
Technique Expertise or Resources to share
Dr. Brown’s technical expertise is focused on pre-clinical evaluation of biomaterials and medical devices, particularly in canine dental bone regeneration models (ridge preservation, ridge augmentation). He also has experience with rodent and in vitro biocompatibility assessment models and biomaterial evaluation techniques.
