Research Interests
My research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of biomaterials for technological and therapeutic applications, including anti-inflammatory gels for wound healing, hyaluronic acid hydrogels for bone tissue engineering, non-fouling biomaterial coatings, polymer scaffolds, and adhesives. We have recently integrated machine learning into the materials process, developing algorithms capable of predicting materials with specific functions based on small datasets. Current projects include 3D bioprinting and high-performance polyurethanes, involving collaborations with experts in computer science, engineering, and medicine as well as industry partnerships. Technology translation is a critical component of our work, and I co-founded Ansatz AI to explore industrial applications of our algorithms, which we will leverage in disseminating machine learning for biomaterials design and characterization for bone tissue engineering.
